Swedish solar developer Alight will build and operate for Axel Johnson AB two more solar farms, bringing to over 90 GWh the combined annual production contracted by the family-owned industrial group.
Under one of the deals announced on Thursday, Axel Johnson food retail and wholesale subsidiary Axfood AB (STO:AXFO) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Alight for a 40-MW solar park that will be producing 40 GWh per year, enough to cover about 15% of the firm’s electricity consumption.
The facility will have about 60,000 solar panels. Axfood has committed to purchase all electricity produced at the site for a minimum of ten years.
Under the other agreement, Alight will build a 30-GWh-plus solar park for Axel Johnson and subsidiaries Axel Johnson International, Dustin, Kicks, Martin & Servera, STC and department store operator Ahlens.
The two solar farms are slated to be completed in the first half of 2023, with permit applications currently under review.
In addition, Alight is already building an 18-MW solar park for restaurant and catering business Martin & Servera, in Skurup, southern Sweden. About 18,000 of more than 35,000 solar panels have already been installed since the PPA was announced in December 2020. Construction is due to be wrapped up in the second quarter of 2022. The annual output will be around 19 GWh.
