Capital Energy signs PPA with Leon, Spain-based ADL BioPharma

Spanish renewables developer and power retailer Capital Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Leon, Spain-based biotechnology company ADL BioPharma, the companies said on Tuesday.

Under the contract, Capital Energy will supply 61,000 MWh of renewable electricity a year to ADL BioPharma’s facilities in Leon over the next five years. This annual volume is equal to the consumption of 25,000 average Spanish homes.

Capital Energy will initially deliver the output of its first operating project in the Castile and Leon region — the 39-MW Las Tadeas wind farm in Palencia — and expects to cover ADL BioPharma’s consumption with electricity generated by its Leon wind projects from 2023.

Capital Energy has 46 renewable energy projects in Castile and Leon, 37 wind and nine solar.

According to the announcement, this is a pioneering renewable PPA for Spain, being concluded between an independent renewable energy developer and an industrial company.
